    Health services:

    • Provide first aid care and medically prescribed services
    • Screen and conduct health appraisals for students and staff
    • Provide follow-up evaluation on students as required
    • Recommends corrective action when problems are identified

                               Keep current records of student:

    • Record immunization, health findings, and other relevant health data
    • Keep a log of all visits to the office
    • Document incident reports and family contact

    Prepared health reports for administrators, board of education and health department.

    Develop policies, procedures and work standards for school health program:

    • Collaborate with other child-support agencies in designing and providing a school health program
    • Initiate program changes as needed
    • Plan and implement school health management protocols

    Negotiate professional and medical services essential to the school health program

    Provide staff development and collaboration with staff:

    • Conduct staff development on health-related topics for school staff and volunteers
    • Collaborate with classroom teachers to promote health through presentations as needed

    Communicate :

    • Conduct home visits when appropriate
    • Correspond with parents on health needs of children
    • Contact families of school incidences or emergencies
    • Connect families with various resources as necessary
    • Inform the appropriate administrator of issues or concerns regarding student health

    Maintenance of the office:

    • Provide a clean work environment in accordance to health regulations
    • Maintain inventory and security of school health supplies

    Other duties as assigned .

  • Qualifications

    LSN certification required

    Experience working in a school environment preferred

    Bilingual in Hmong language preferred but not required

    Knowledge of community agencies to help students and their families

This is a date-specific annually renewable appointment, available 1/19/2016, with funding through 12/15/2017

    Primary responsibilities of this position include: 1) participate in the development and/or revision of all study-related intervention materials and protocols, 2) deliver intervention sessions to child and parent to include small groups and home visiting; 3) assist in training of intervention staff, particularly nursing student staff; 4) supervise nursing student staff in the field; 5) assist with coordination of intervention activities with the partnering school district and other community-based partners; 5) assist with research participant recruitment and eligibility screening; 6) assist with measurement and evaluation activities, and 8) support the dissemination of project results and other deliverables, such as intervention training.

  • Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    • Current licensure as Registered Nurse (RN) in State of MN
    • Current registration with the MN Board of Nursing as a public health nurse
    • Eligible for licensure as a school nurse in State of MN
    • Baccalaureate or higher degree with a major in nursing with at least 4 years of experience or a combination of education and experience to equal 8 years.
    • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills and skills in written communication and word processing.
    • Skill in conducting health education one-on-one and in group settings, with children and adults.
    • Knowledge of health evaluation and assessment techniques.
    • Knowledge of motivational interviewing techniques.
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision upon completion of intervention training.
    • Experience and/or willingness to work on-site in community settings, such as schools
    • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including varied work hours during the day, with some evening and weekend work.
    • Works well independently and as a team member.
    • Skill in preparing clear and concise reports, charts, and other written materials.
    • Reliable transportation

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience working with school-aged children and their families
    • Master’s degree in nursing or health-related field
    • Experience writing scientific manuscripts and publishing
    • Experience delivering health-related and preferably obesity-related interventions in community settings, such as schools

                    Develop and implement individual health plans (IHP) and emergency health plans (EHP) for students with handicapping health conditions that require accommodations to attend school.

                    Perform skilled nursing procedures, and delegate nursing care procedures when appropriate (see delegation guidelines) including planning, training, monitoring and supervision of delegation using clear written plans for delegates to follow.

                    Participate on a multidisciplinary team that promotes student resiliency and may address the physical and social/emotional health needs of students and plan interventions.

                    Assist students and families in obtaining health care in the community by referrals to appropriate providers and agencies.

    • License as a Public School Nurse from Minnesota Department of Education.
    • License as a Registered Nurse from Minnesota Board of Nursing.
    • Public Health certification from Minnesota Board of Nursing.
    • Current CPR certification for the Healthcare Professional and current First Aid certification.
